Functional Treatment
Functional appliances (e.g. the Twin Block) are a popular type of reducing the projection of the front teeth in patients who are growing.
Comprehensive Treatment
Comprehensive treatment is undertaken for the majority of patients during the early teens. Treatment aims to create a beautiful, balanced and functional smile (optimal outcome).
Adult Treatment
Teeth can be moved at any age as long as the teeth and gums are healthy. The expectations from treatment may be different in adult patients, e.g. adults may want different treatment endpoints.
Orthognathic Treatment
Jaw surgery, also known as orthognathic (or-thog-NATH-ik) surgery, corrects irregularities of the jaw bones and realigns the jaws and teeth to improve the way they work. Making these corrections may also improve your facial appearance.

About Dr Herman Uÿs
Dr. Herman Uÿs
Orthodontist
Herman commenced and completed his school education in the lowveld town of Tzaneen. He enrolled as undergraduate dental student and completed his dental training in 1997 (BChD, UP). He worked in general dental practise (Poole, Dorset, UK) up to 1999.
The following 2 years was spend in training post whilst attaining faculty membership (MFDS, RCS, 2000) towards entry for specialist training. Herman was accepted as registrar in orthodontics and completed his specialist training in 2004 (M Orth, RCS Edin). He pursued higher training and completed the intercollegiate specialty fellowship (FDS Orth 2007).
Herman returned to South-Africa in 2007 and set up practise in Pretoria and Benoni. Herman is a compassionate and understanding clinician with a kind and caring manner towards his patients. His practise includes a full spectrum of orthodontic care options.
